Nigel Farage, um deputado britãnico, membro do Parlamento Europeu, proferiu um discurso em 24 de novembro de 2010, que eletrizou a crescente oposição à União Européia. Abaixo, reproduziremos uma transcrição do discurso.
Farage acousou Herman Von Rompuy, Presidente da União Européia, de ser um fanático que deseja impor o sonho do Euro sobre as costas dos europeus, a qualquer preço e ao custo de destruição da democracia e empobrecimento de milhões de pessoas. Farage não tem medo de falar a um grande número de eurocentristas , que considera a União Européia o sonho de uma elite “anglo-americana”,objetivando consolidar seu domínio sobre o povo europeu.

Bom dia, Sr. Van Rompuy,
Vsa está ocupando o cargo já por 1 ano e neste período, todo o edifício está começando a ruir. Temos caos,o dinheiro acabando - Eu devo agradecer a Vsa; Vsa deve ser uma espécie de modelo sensual do movimento Eurocêntrico.
Mas basta olhar em volta desta Casa, nesta manhã. Apenas veja estes rostos. Veja o medo nos rostos. Veja a raiva. Pobre velho o Barroso, que aparenta ter visto um fantasma.
Eles começam a entender que o jogo acabou e contudo, mesmo em desespero em preservar seus sonhos, querem remover quaisquer traços de democracia presentes no sistema. Está bem nítído que nenhum de vocês aprendeu algo.
Quando vsa, Sr Van Rompuy, diz que o Euro nos trouxe estabilidade; penso que talvez devesse aplaudir pelo vosso senso de humor,mas está não e apenas a mentalidade de bunker?
Vosso fanatismo está exposto. Vsa fala acerca do fato que seria uma mentira crer que o Estado-nação poderia existir no mundo globalizado do século 21. Bem, talvez seja verdadeiro em relação à Bélgica, que ficou sem governo seis meses, mas para o resto de nós, para cada Estado membro desta União- e talvez isto seja a causa do medo estampado nos rostos - cada vez mais as pessoas estão dizendo `nao queremos aquela bandeira. Não queremos o hino. Não qeremos sua classe política. Queremos que a coisa toda vá prá lata de lixo da história.´
Tivemos a tragédia grega no começo do ano, e agora temos esta situação na Irlanda. Agora sei que a estupidez e ganãncia dos políticos irlandeses tem tudo a ver com isto. Eles nunca deveriam ter adotado o Euro. Eles sofreeram com taxas de juros baixas, um falso boom econômico e uma explosão massiva.
Mas veja a resposta que Vsa deu a eles. O que foi dito a eles, no momento da quebra do governo irlandês: não seria recomendável a realização de eleições gerais. De fato, oComissário Rehn, afirmou que eles deveriam aprovar o orçamento imposto pela UE para depois receberem permissão para realizar as eleições.
Quem vocês aqui presentes pensam que são?
Vocês são pessoas perigosas, muito perigosas. A obscessão de vocês com a idéia da criação de um Euroestado, significa que vocês estão felizes em destruir a dermocracia. Parecem felizes com o fato de milhões e milhoes de pessoas tenham perdido seus empregos e estejam empobrecidas. Incontáveis milhões devem sofrer para que o sonho do Euro possa continuar.
Bem, não vai funcionar. Não vai funcionar porque Portugal é a proximo com seu nível de débito situado em 325% do PNB. Os portugueses são os próximos da lista e suspeito que em seguida será a vez da Espanha. O salvamento financeiro da Espanha, deverá ser sete vezes maior que o dinheiro emprestado à Irlanda, e naquele momento, todo o dinheiro existente para estes socorros terá acabado. Não haverá mais dinheiro.

Farage accused Herman von Rompay, President of the European Union, of being a fanatic willing to create the Euro dream on the backs of Europeans, at the cost of destroying democracy and impoverishing millions. Farage is unafraid to speak for a large number of “Eurosceptics” who consider the EU a dream of the “Anglo-American elite” to consolidate power over the people.

Good morning, Mr. van Rompuy,
You’ve been in office for one year and in that time the whole edifice is beginning to crumble, there’s chaos, the money’s running out – I should thank you; you should perhaps be the pin-up boy of the Eurosceptic movement.
But just look around this chamber, this morning. Just look at these faces. Look at the fear. Look at the anger. Poor old Barroso here looks like he’s seen a ghost.
They’re beginning to understand that the game is up and yet in their desperation to preserve their dream, they want to remove any remaining traces of democracy from the system. And it’s pretty clear that none of you have learnt anything.
When you yourself, Mr. van Rompuy, say that the euro has brought us stability. I suppose I could applaud you for having a sense of humour, but isn’t this, really, just the bunker mentality?
Your fanaticism is out in the open. You talked about the fact that it was a lie to believe that the nation state could exist in the 21st Century globalised world. Well, that may be true in the case of Belgium, who haven’t had a government for six months, but for the rest of us, right across every member state in this Union – and perhaps this is why we see the fear in the faces – increasingly people are saying, ‘We don’t want that flag. We don’t want the anthem. We don’t want this political class. We want the whole thing consigned to the dustbin of history.’
And we had the Greek tragedy earlier on this year, and now we have this situation in Ireland. Now I know that the stupidity and greed of Irish politicians has a lot to do with this. They should never ever have joined the euro. They suffered with low interest rates, a false boom and a massive bust.
But look at your response to them. What they’re being told, as their government is collapsing, is that it would be inappropriate for them to have a general election. In fact Commissioner Rehn here said they had to agree their budget first before they’d be allowed to have a general election.
Just who the hell do you think you people are?
You are very, very dangerous people, indeed. Your obsession with creating this Euro state means that you’re happy to destroy democracy. You appear to be happy for millions and millions of people to be unemployed and to be poor. Untold millions must suffer so that your Euro dream can continue.
Well it won’t work. Because it’s Portugal next, with their debt levels of 325% of GDP, they’re the next ones on the list, and after that I suspect it will be Spain. And the bailout for Spain would be seven times the size of Ireland’s and at that moment all of the bailout money has gone – there won’t be anymore.
But it is even more serious than economics. Because if you rob people of their identity. If you rob them of their democracy, then all they are left with is nationalism and violence. I can only hope and pray that the Euro project is destroyed by the markets before that really happens. – Open speech in European Parliament.
